Actually almost nobody really needs this size but (((the manufacturers))) like it because they can sell larger cameras and lenses to (YOU) who could use smaller less expensive solutions in most cases. Often the FF camera is so heavy that it stays at home and people use the smartphone instead.
Micro Four Turds sensors are to large for smartphones atm, but they're large enough to make capable cameras with a variety of lenses for all kinds of use cases. APS-C is a bit larger with the advantages and the disadvantages the comes with the size. FF is even larger and there are different medium formats that make sense for a few demanding use cases.
At the end it's just like with cars. (((The manufacturers))) don't like to build the small ones and advertise the need of large cars that can go cross country and transport heavy machinery. Thank God most people who bought this never try to do this in real life.
With cameras it's the same. We all know that a mid-tier smartphone (I own a Pixel 7 which is dirt cheap atm) has a large enough sensor for daily snapshits but it can't do everything normal people need. MFT and APS-C can do this. FF is needed for professional shoots like high quality indoor sports, product images in advertising and such but even the high quality TV productions of the most expensive sports are done with much smaller sensors and we can do this all with croppled sensor cameras for the normal results that are needed for YouTube and Instagram on the smartphone, monitor or TV-screen.

Before the pandemic I was an avid hobby photographer that did a good bit of travelling. I used to come to this board a lot and enjoyed the keks.

Anyway, I started to get tired of the photo faggotry and downscaled my gear, got rid of my medium format SQ-A, the lenses, my digi fuji shit, the lot. I really started to hate photographers and the cancer that metastasised across social platforms, e.g.: "gear does/doesn't matter" "DO THIS (red arrow)", "Whiney bitch Thomas Heaton", etc...

I ultimately wanted to downsize and get a X100V, but the pandemic hit and it made photography irrelevant to me.

Cut to 4 years later, and I do not regret selling all my gear. I still take photos but only on my Samsung S23, which is decent, but I've lately started to get more curious again, and see what has been going on.

I find it sad that nothing excites me anymore, there are practically no new innovations or reasons to get back into photography.

The new X100V is a massive cash sink, with very few useful features (aside from IBIS).

The GR III looked quite impressive, but doing some research reveals it's an expensive, fragile toy liable to become a paperweight if a grain of sand enters it's cavernous gaps. Why the fuck hasn't serious become weather-sealed is beyond me.

Film cameras were already a joke to me, and a completely impractical means of taking travel snapshits.

So my question /p/. Is there an exciting, or upcoming travel camera with the portability of a GR III, that I should give a shit about?

In order to re-frame, it will automatically generate the necessary stuff that was outside the frame.
Bokeh? It will generate bokeh automatically.
Sharpness problem? it will generate detail where there was none. It will debokeh stuff automatically.
